From Estonia to Rhodes — Our Journey Behind Looneytravels

Looneytravels began with a leap of faith, a long road trip across Europe, and a decision to build life differently. Today, we share real, local Rhodes experiences shaped by daily island life, curiosity, and a love for exploring beyond the obvious.

Why I Started Looneytravels

After arriving in Rhodes, I noticed something quickly:

Most travellers were getting bad advice.

Overcrowded beaches.
Overpriced tours.
Restaurants made for tourists, not locals.
Confusing transport info.
Blogs written by people who visited once… years ago.

Meanwhile, I was:

  • Exploring beaches in winter, spring, summer, and autumn

  • Testing buses, car routes, ferries, and walking distances

  • Eating where tourists are welcome and locals actually eat

  • Helping friends and travellers plan smarter trips

I realized one thing:
👉 People don’t need more inspiration. They need clarity.

So I started documenting everything — first on YouTube, then here on Looneytravels Website.

What Makes My Guides Different

I don’t write about Rhodes from a hotel room.

I live here.

Every guide on Looneytravels is based on:

  • Real, recent experiences

  • Year-round knowledge, not just summer snapshots

  • Routes I’ve taken myself

  • Places I return to (not one-time visits)

I focus on:

  • 🏝️ Beaches (hidden, quiet, family-friendly, wild)

  • 🚗 Getting around Rhodes without stress

  • 🍽️ Local food & tavernas

  • 🏨 Where to stay — honestly

  • 🗺️ Itineraries that actually make sense geographically

No paid hype. No copied content. No generic advice.

About Me – Hi, I’m Looney 👋

My real name is Joosep, but most people know me as Looney.

I’m originally from Estonia, but in 2023 my wife Caitlin and I made a decision that changed everything.

We sold almost everything we owned.
Our home.
Our routines.
Our safety net.

The only things we left behind were a few board games and books — the small comforts that reminded us who we were before the leap.

Flying would have been easier. But we couldn’t.
We had our little mini bunny, Miki, with us.

So instead, we rented a mini van and drove.

For four days straight, we travelled over 3,500 kilometres by land, crossing countries, borders, and long quiet roads — chasing a feeling we couldn’t fully explain yet, only trust.

Eventually, we reached Rhodes.

That journey wasn’t just about moving locations.
It was about choosing a different life.

What started as simple curiosity quickly became something much deeper. Living on the island year-round, I began exploring Rhodes far beyond the tourist brochures — not as a visitor, but as someone building a life here.

Quiet beaches in winter.
Local tavernas without menus in English.
Back roads, viewpoints, villages, routines.
The kind of Rhodes most people never see.

That’s how Looneytravels was born.

Not as another “top 10 things to do” travel blog —
but as a real local insider guide, shaped by daily life, real experiences, and a journey that started long before I ever set foot on the island.

Miki is no longer with us today, but that road trip — and what it represented — lives on in everything I do here.

YouTube + Real-World Exploring

Alongside this site, I run the Looneytravels YouTube channel, where I:

  • Explore Rhodes on camera

  • Show real conditions (crowds, prices, roads)

  • Visit places most blogs don’t mention

  • Share honest impressions — good and bad

Many of my written guides are built after filming and revisiting places multiple times, not before.

If you see a recommendation here, it’s something I’d suggest to a friend visiting me in Rhodes.

Travel Buddy & Personal Help

Over time, travellers started asking for more personal help:

  • Custom itineraries

  • Hotel advice

  • Transport planning

  • Local tips based on their travel style

That’s why I created my Rhodes Travel Buddy service — for people who want local help without guesswork.

Whether you use the free guides, the digital guide, or personal help — the goal is always the same:

👉 Help you experience Rhodes properly, not just tick boxes.

Who Looneytravels Is For

Looneytravels is for you if:

  • You want honest, up-to-date advice

  • You prefer quality over crowds

  • You don’t want to waste time or money

  • You like exploring with a local mindset

It might not be for you if you’re only looking for Instagram spots and copy-paste itineraries.

And that’s okay 😉

One Last Thing

I’m not a tour company or official Guide.
I’m not a big media site.
I’m just someone who lives here, explores constantly, and shares what actually matters.

If that’s the kind of travel advice you value —
you’re in the right place.

Welcome to Looneytravels 🤍

About Caitlin

Caitlin is the co-founder of SoulSisterTarot, which she runs together with her sister — a space rooted in self-love, inner healing, and conscious personal growth.

But Caitlin is also the quiet force behind Looneytravels.

When Joosep needs encouragement to step outside, explore one more road, or film “just one more spot,” it’s usually Caitlin who inspires him to go. Her support, curiosity, and belief in the process are deeply woven into everything Looneytravels has become.

Originally from Estonia, Caitlin moved to Rhodes together with Joosep in 2023, leaving behind a full life in Estonia. Before that, she worked as a nurse, a role that shaped her deep empathy, emotional awareness, and natural ability to care for others — qualities that continue to define her work today.

Before launching her own business, Caitlin spent time exploring Rhodes alongside Joosep, adapting to island life and reconnecting with herself in a slower, more intentional environment. That period of reflection, healing, and personal transformation played a key role in shaping her path.

At the heart of Caitlin’s philosophy lies one simple but powerful truth:

Self-love is the foundation of a truly joyful and aligned life.

This belief guides both her work at SoulSisterTarot and the quiet, steady support she brings to everything around her.

From Personal Struggle to Inner Truth

Caitlin’s path into psychology and spirituality was shaped not only by curiosity, but by lived experience. When depression hit her hard, she didn’t look for quick fixes or surface-level explanations. Instead, she began asking deeper questions.

Why did this happen?
What was her inner world trying to communicate?
What truly creates lasting emotional balance?

Her search led her inward — through research, analysis, emotional healing, and spiritual exploration. Over time, one truth stood out clearly: when you genuinely learn to love yourself, everything else in life begins to flow more naturally.

Psychology Meets Intuition

Caitlin holds a Master’s degree in Psychology and is also a certified Spiritual Counselor, allowing her to bridge scientific understanding with intuitive insight.

She is naturally curious and analytical, yet deeply intuitive — with a remarkably strong instinct when it comes to:

  • Life paths and personal purpose

  • Relationships and emotional patterns

  • Tarot symbolism

  • Dreams and subconscious messages

Her intuition is grounded, not abstract — shaped by education, real-life experience, and years of self-work.

SoulSisterTarot & Her Work Today

At the beginning of 2025, Caitlin officially launched SoulSisterTarot together with her sister, turning years of personal study, intuitive development, and counseling experience into a grounded professional offering.

With years of experience in tarot readings, spiritual counseling, and life guidance, Caitlin approaches every session with empathy, clarity, and honesty. She doesn’t offer vague reassurance or unrealistic promises. Instead, she helps people understand themselves more deeply, reconnect with their inner voice, and move forward with greater self-trust.

Her work focuses on:

  • Building genuine self-love

  • Breaking unhealthy emotional patterns

  • Strengthening self-trust

  • Supporting long-term personal growth

Alongside her spiritual and counseling work, Caitlin is also a children’s book author. Storytelling has always been another way for her to explore emotions, imagination, and inner worlds — especially from a child’s perspective.

One of her books, The Secret Life of Billy the Package, is available in the Looneytravels shop, reflecting the creative side of her work and her love for meaningful stories that connect with both children and adults alike.

A Safe Space for Growth

Through SoulSisterTarot, Caitlin offers more than insight — she creates a safe, grounded, and non-judgmental space for those who are ready to look inward, ask meaningful questions, and consciously grow.

Her approach blends psychology, spirituality, intuition, and real-life experience, allowing her to guide people through real transformation — not surface-level motivation. Whether you’re feeling stuck, disconnected, or simply ready to understand yourself on a deeper level, Caitlin’s work is designed to support long-term self-awareness and emotional clarity.

Bunny Miki & the Heart Behind Looneytravels 🐰

Bunny Miki is one of the reasons we are called Looneytravels.

Miki wasn’t just a pet — he was a true travel companion.
In a span of just two years, he travelled across eight countries, lived in six different homes, and adapted to more change than some people experience in a lifetime. He lived to be five years old, and every step of the journey, he was right there with us.

When we sold everything in Estonia and drove over 3,500 km by land to Rhodes, Miki was with us in the van — calm, curious, and completely trusting. Flying was never an option because of him, and we wouldn’t have had it any other way.

That journey shaped not only our life — but also the spirit of Looneytravels.

The Bunnies Who Traveled Life With Us

Saying Goodbye & Opening Our Home Again

When Miki passed away at the end of August 2024, the house felt unbearably quiet. Anyone who has loved an animal deeply knows that silence — the kind that settles into every room.

After some time, Joosep and Caitlin felt that the best way to honor Miki was not to replace him — but to open their home again.

In November 2024, a mini bunny named Slim joined the family. And soon it became clear that Slim needed a companion. So in March 2025, another bunny, Shady, arrived.

Slim & Shady Today

Today, Slim and Shady are inseparable.

What one bunny does, the other follows.
They sleep with their heads touching at night.
They wake us up in the morning by jumping onto the bed.
They explore every corner of the house and yard together.

They are free bunnies — meaning they don’t live in a cage. They run freely around the house and outside 24/7, fully part of everyday life.

Their presence fills the home with movement, joy, and constant reminders to slow down and enjoy the small moments.

Miki will always be part of our story — and of Looneytravels.
Slim and Shady are part of what continues it.

And if the name Looneytravels ever felt a little unusual…
now you know why 🤍🐇
